Writing Method for Designers
Supervisor: João Ferreira
This research project aims to develop a writing tool specifically tailored for designers. The project originates from the observation that designers, being visual thinkers by nature and training, may experience an added difficulty when dealing with the complex task of writing scholarly articles and their thesis.
Also, the project explores the possibility that design thinking could present an advantage in academic writing; namely in terms of its clarity, precision, and descriptive qualities.
The project builds on work conducted with PhD candidates from the Lisbon School of Architecture.
Aims
- To develop a descriptive model of the stages of academic writing;
- To adapt the model into a method adapted to how designers think;
- Develop exercises and experiments into a coherent sequence of teaching strategies that effectively communicate the method to PhD candidates.
