Project ERD – Education and Research in Design: Content, methodologies, and didactics

Supervisor: Rita Almendra

The research project ERD aims to connect ongoing PhD research linked with education and research in Design with the one made by the supervisors of those investigations that are mainly based in their own practice of teaching and researching. This way, we constantly question education and research in design in terms of its contents, methodologies and didactics, therefore, there is a permanent evaluation based on empirical studies, interviews and surveys on the teaching-learning process and outcomes on this field. It includes the teaching processes on how to research in design, its topics, framing methodologies and results.

Objectives
  • Produce rigorous knowledge based on empirical studies about design education (especially in Portugal);
  • Test and conclude about which methodologies and didactics are more adequate not only in terms of designing but mostly through the study of interdisciplinarity and its role in design education in our century;
  • Identify methods and tools more attuned to the learning-teaching process in the area of design especially in what concerns tacit knowledge;
  • Produce innovative teaching-learning contents (to be experimented and evaluated empirically).
