The UN World Creativity and Innovation Week (WCIW) is a global celebration that takes place annually from 15 to 21 April. Its aim is to encourage people to use their creative thinking skills to identify and solve problems, generate new ideas and solutions, and make a positive impact in their communities.

In 2023, the WCIW theme is “INSPIRE: People, Connection, Action” through Stories that Make a Difference. The global celebration includes a wide variety of activities, such as workshops, conferences, art exhibitions and community projects, which are related to applying creativity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year, Katja Tschimmel, WCIW’s Portuguese ambassador, challenged four Design research institutions to create a Cycle of Talks on “Creativity and Innovation in Design Research”. Each institution will include in its debate aspects (arguments, open questions, etc.) from the previous debate, making the discussion continuous and enriching. All Talks will take place in person and simultaneously via Zoom, so that students, researchers and professors from the other institutions involved can participate throughout the Cycle.

IIn this edition we will have Professor Rita Almendra, Coordinator of Grupo Redes, who will address the Contribution of Design Conferences to Creativity and Innovation in Research. And also Professor Marco Neves, an integrated member of Grupo Redes who will moderate the talk on Creativity and Innovation in the research process Short-talks by ULisboa PhD students.

You can participate online or in person between April 21 and May 12. Don’t miss this opportunity to get inspired, connect and act in favor of a more creative and innovative world!
