
Rute Gomes
Rute Gomes was born in 1977 in Lisbon. Took her degree in Arts in 2001 at ESAD (Caldas da Rainha – Portugal), where she started working on utilitarian objects, and won the Gulbenkian Foundation Young Designer Award 2000 edition. Made her MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art, with a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian’s Scholarship, her MA body of work was recognized with the Ruth Drew Award.
Back in Portugal, she developed her professional work, being commissioned by various clients such as TAP ME, ICNB, Atelier de Santos- Arquitectura or Microsoft/Burel. Before starting her PhD studies, was a design tutor at two design bachelor’s degrees: at Product Design and Development (ESTA – Polytechnic Institute of Tomar), and Product Design and Technology (ESAN- Aveiro University).
Financed by FCT, has developed her PhD studies in Design at FAUL: ”Furniture Design for a Flexible Use of Dwellings: Framework, Functional Requests, and Prototype”, that has concluded with distinction in July, 2017. In that year was an Auxiliar Professor at the Design Degree in Universidade Lusíada Norte. The year after, entered Universidade Europeia – IADE as a coordinator for the Design Management Master, and as a Auxiliar Professor.
Develops at FAUL, since 2019, the Project Furniture Design for a flexible use of dwellings, under the FCT program CEEind 2017.
