
Rita Almendra
Coordinator
Rita Assoreira Almendra is currently a Full Professor at Lisbon University, Lisbon School of Architecture (FAULisbon). She has a PhD in Design concluded in 2010 in FAUL; Her master in Design Management was concluded in 2004 in Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Faculdade de Ciências Económicas e Empresariais and she has also an MBA with marketing specialization, finished in 2002 from the same school. Her graduation in Design from Technical University of Lisbon dates from 1998. She started as a lecturer at FAULisbon in 2000, become assistant professor in 2010 and associated professor in 2016. She is the Head of the Project Design Department, was a member of the Scientific Council for seven years (she was the Vice-president of the Scientific Council until 2021); Coordinator of the 3rd Cycle; Coordinator of the Design Doctoral program; Coordinator of the nucleus of Design and a researcher at CIAUD – Research center of FAULisbon. She is also Professor at the Doctoral Program of Sciences of Sustainability from University of Lisbon; She published 20 articles in journals; 30 book chapters, she has 2 co authored book(s); She is the editor of 4 book and has made more than 75 papers in conference’s proceedings; She supervised 20 PhD theses already finished and has 20 more on-going (with other supervisors); supervised more than 70 MSc dissertations. She has been a member of more than 100 Master juries and of 45 PhD defense Juries; She organized several conferences, was a member of various Scientific committees of journals and conferences; She is a reviewer of multiple conferences and a few publications. She was a member of FCT’s doctoral studentship in the Design area for 3 years being the vice-coordinator on 2023 and being nowadays the coordinator of FCT doctoral Scholarship pannel for Design, Architecture and Urbanism; She was also member of the jury of Lisbon University’s doctoral studentship in design; She was a member of 30 juries from 10 different schools to select candidates to the position of assistant and associate professors; She was granted with an FCT doctoral scholarship; Has received 4 awards and/or honors. Her scientific and research interest areas are: Design Education; Design Research, Social Design; Design Processes; Sustainable Design; Design Management; Competitiveness and Innovation; Collaboration; Participatory Design and Service Design.
