Inês Veiga

Researcher

Inês is a designer and design educator. Her practice focuses on research and development of codesign processes with diverse organizations, groups, and communities to tackle ‘the right to the city’, citizenship, social change, and sustainability issues. Co-founder and board member of NGO “Locals Approach” (since 2014), with urban planners Gonçalo Folgado and João Martins, with whom most of the socially and politically engaged design work happens. She works as well as an assistant professor at FAUL – Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, and at the Faculty of Architecture and Arts, Lusíada University. She is collaborating researcher at CIAUD – Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design and CITAD – The Center for Research in Territory, Architecture, and Design. Inês holds a PhD in Design (2020) from the FAUL – Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, entitled “Indiscipline, social design principles and practices: how designers work in this realm”, supervised by Prof. Rita Almendra (FAUL) and Prof. Thomas Binder (Design School Kolding). As part of the doctoral research, she was visiting scholar at CODE – Center for Codesign Research in the Royal Danish Academy (2016) and participated in the TRADERS – Training Art and Design Researchers in Participation for Public Space network (2014-2016). Member of the Scientific Committee of the Porto Design Biennale 2021. Elementary school Art’s teacher (2019-2020). Participant in the first edition of the “!mpact Design for Social Change” Course at SVA – School of Visual Arts (2010). Degree in Communication Design (2008) from the FBAUL – Faculty of Fine Arts University of Lisbon.
